About the author

Professor EJT Collins is a leading rural and agricultural historian, and the former Director of the Museum of Rural History at the University of Reading. His main areas of research have included: the rural industries; agricultural production and techniques; the history of the modern food industry and, in particular, multi-national food companies.

Among his many publications, Professor Collins edited the Cambridge 'Agrarian History of England and Wales, 1850 –1914', vol. VII, 2000.

Professor Collins is now Emeritus Professor in the Department of Agricultural and Food Economics at the University of Reading, where he continues to teach and research.
